Jack Lockwood

Jack Lockwood played with the club for over twenty years and was fortunate to be part of the dominate Tatura A team, he played in all seven premierships won by the side.

Apart from serving as vice president for nine years, Jack was also a committeeman for over ten. He was a terrific worker for the club. He was employed by the Shire of Rodney in the parks and gardens and lived next door to the ground in Maher St for most of his life. That being so, it was probably pre determined that much of his work for the club would be on the wicket and ground. Jack spent many hours rolling the wickets and preparing the ground for play.
Jack was a dour batsman who would plod through an innings. He could always be relied on to hold up his end and rotate the strike to keep an innings going. He was also considered a very good fieldsman.
There are many stories retold by club members of the era about Jack. However one that keeps cropping up is about one Presentation night held at the old Golf Club. Apparently it was a very social night that went on to the early hours of the morning. As Jack was part of the committee he was expected back the next morning to help clean up. When he didn’t turn up it caused a bit of concern as he was considered extremely reliable when it came to the club. So a club member went round to his home to see if he was OK. Jack was found in the bath still fully clothed from the night before snoring soundly.
