Rod Kilmartin

Rod Kilmartin

Rod or "killa" as he was known by everyone joined the club as a junior and quickly progressed through the ranks into A grade eventually becoming captain.

Killa had a stella career at the club capped off by four A grade premierships, two of which he captained.  He is rated by many as their best captain they played under.  He led from the front on the field with bat and ball and from his favourite position in Gully.

Killa was renowned for his astute tactics and his repore with his team mates.  His teams played the game to win but also ensured that they enjoyed themselves while doing so.  He ensured that once the game was over the players socialised with the opposition.  Its what club members call playing the "Tatura Way" which Killa was very strong on.

Apart from captaining Tatura he was also a very successful captain of the KDCA representative teams.  Leading them through a very successful period.

Off field Killa took over the Presidents role at a pivotal point in the clubs history and guided it through two of its biggest changes.

The club decided that after nearly fifty years in the KDCA it was time to move to Cricket Shepparton.  The move wasnt popular with KDCA member clubs and was denied initially.  However Rod and others were able to take it to appeal successfully.

The second was moving away from the clubs home base of 100 years Tatura Park.  Less than 10 years after finally building our own clubrooms the club had to move as Tatura park was being repurposed.  Killa was able to lead the negotiations with council and ensure that the club was provided with facillities equal to what we had built over the previous 100 years.
